Matthew E. Pachman received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1984. He is a former Village Attorney for the Villages of Greenport and Islandia and former counsel to the Town of Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals. He has been appointed special counsel by various towns, villages and school and library districts in Suffolk County and Nassau County, with assignments ranging from Acting Special Prosecutor to defense of federal and state land use proceedings, federal civil rights actions and other municipal litigation.

He has been awarded an AV rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Lawyer Rating Service, the highest rating that organization confers.

Mr. Pachman was outside Long Island counsel for wireless telephone companies. In that capacity he negotiated leases and obtained zoning approvals for more than 50 cell sites. He has served as outside counsel to Fortune 500 companies and other public utilities in various legal matters over the years.

At home in court and in negotiation

Mr. Pachman is also a skilled trial practitioner with broad experience in complex municipal, land use, real estate and commercial litigation in New York State and federal trial and appellate courts. He has argued cases before the New York State Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Pachman is the former President of the Suffolk Country Bar Association and was its past counsel. He received the Bar Association President’s Award, the highest award that 3,800-member organization confers. He has co-authored a monthly column entitled “Civil Litigation Corner” for the Suffolk Lawyer.

He is a former member of the College Counsel, State University College at Old Westbury, the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Long Island, and the Board of Governors of the St. Charles Hospital Society, Port Jefferson, New York.
